yes, trying to avid copies here,
and i've thrown in Substance Painter instead.
3DCoat is great, but S-Painter is a tad better i think for fast texturing (?)
but the real reason for using S-Painter is its auto UV tool. > best there is.

Thank You for the suggestion tho', Absolutely wort a mention.

Houdini Ocean Toolkit doesn't really belong in the dynamics section. It's an animated displacement.

ciao
Thomas

(Syflex Cloth is also animated displacement)
Yes, but for it's aim is to visually simulate dynamic fluids, therefore...

The list is (this time) based on use, not necessarily category.
True tho'...

you are missing best UV app on the list, RizomUV

i never really found it to be that great, i mean, from what i see, even Substance Painter now has a better auto-UV. (?)
as of 2022.
- Rizom Topocopy is cool.

You need to try, what Rizom UV can Unwrap nobody can, you just need to dig into the app more to see the full power, And in LW especially with OD tools link i don't even need to export/import models, directly from modeller i hit Auto UV or manual UV and it opens Rizom in background and do it's magic and shows up in modeller without any I/O procedure :).

But on the other had my last Substance Painter (and Designer) is 2019 version (i.e. last one that had perpetual licensing before Adobe Borg assimilated it and made Rent only).

forgot Embergen.

skipped it because of cost, guess i could add it in a parenthesis (will do).

Perpetual Zbrush is only $895.

You have a few apps in your chart that cost nearly that much, and depending on the length of a subscription, some that will easily eclipse that cost.

Oh... also, if you are going to have Substance Painter on there... you might want to add After Effects to your Video list.

i will look more into this.
It could mean I'll eventually cut Substance Painter from this list,
since no fan of Subscription, and the Steam version is a bit so-so.

cool,

I see Rizom also offers a Pay to rent option...

If subscription is unwanted, 3DCoat and Rizom would be better choices over Substance Painter.
There are automatic and well-controlled methods to generate UV maps.

i might do that. + there is a 3DCoat <> LightWave workflow / Applink for LightWave 11.
(not for LightWave 2020)

However, I'm not sure about any controversy of Substance Painter/Designer on Steam as a perpetual option.
It seems to fire up okay.

Yes, it is more about having Steam installed, with the running updates etc.
With all these apps it is a bit of a hazzle with yet one more that connects to the net.
Also, the Steam version of Substance Painter can't download new presets from the Adobe Cloud.

That said, looks rather good overall.

Presets for materials (with all image textures, etc.) should be online.

I.e. you upload your materials for others and download materials from others, just like that, from the app.

I.e., type "Thomas Leitner" in the Preset Editor search box and see his materials that he has shared with the community..
