What is the point of this? And why don't developers create to the latest file format of LW.

cos latest format of LWO only works in modo and LW 2018+, whereas LWO2 works everywhere

Well exactly - why did they not make it to accommodate the latest file format, it's not like NT kept it as proprietary format and the specification was not available. When LW2018 was released I reached out to Manuel Marcus @ Mootools makers of 3DBrowser to get support for the new format and he had already had LWO3 support up and running in house and then delivered it about a month later.cos latest format of LWO only works in modo and LW 2018+, whereas LWO2 works everywhere
