DVD workflow

As I'm fairly new to VT, I don't know if this has always been the case, but VT5 can export directly to mpeg2 DVD formats.

I tried an AVI wrapper first in Ulead DVD workshop, and it worked sort of, but not really. It looked fine during setup, but when I exported it to the DVD the audio was way out of sync with the video. I just assumed it had something to do with the AVI wrapper.

So now I'm exporting to an MPEG2 VBR 7MB/s format out of VT5. Will this keep Ulead from having to re encode it?

Does anyone recommend something better?

Yes, that should prevent DVD WS 2 from needing to re-encode the video.

But note that a lot of us prefer the quality of TMPGEnc's MPEG-2 encoding.

And Newtek includes a VTP loader to bring VT/SpeedEDIT projects directly into TMPGEnc 2.5.

I would also suggest for VBR encoding out of SpeedEdit, turning on the two-pass encoding, and saving that as a custom preset.

But has SpeedEDIT's MPEG encoder improved since I did my study on it?

Not that I know of.

And thanks by the way for doing those comparisons - good detailed info.

I was just pointing out, that VBR two-pass encoding can typically yield better results than CBR one pass, and the defaults settings for VBR MPEG encoding in SpeedEdit are single pass. Double-pass encoding will improve the quality, but take longer.
