2DRibbon only allows for 50 control points?

The Number of Control Points parameter goes up until 300 but if turn on the Show Control Points Values parameter, only 50 possible values are displayed.
So, what is the maximum number of control points allowed? 300? 50?
I was trying to create a plugin to read Illustrator files to populate the 2DRibbon plugin but being only able to create 50 points is just way too limited.
If only 50 control points are allowed, why does the Number of Control Points parameter goes up to 300?
 
Is it official? The maximum number of control points of a 2DRibbon is officially 50, although we can set 300 as a numerical maximum?
 
Almost done!! A few edges to polish, but now I can read Illustrator 8 files and convert them to a 2DRibbon, and animate their construction or use them as paths for other containers.
