Realistically the way it looks to me right now is that we are just coming out of a worldwide disaster that has destroyed economies and businesses around the world. Asking about Lightwave seems a bit like asking "so during this disaster, when are you going to clean out the closet in the back room"

Some positives perhaps..
Vizrt has started with a lot more job ads now on their site for hiring developers and such, but from most of what I can see and perceive...it will be around video tools, and their own engine..but at least they seem to have the intention to hire, not let people go...though the situation around the Lightwave team of developers is a mystery to me.

I can kind of feel Vizrt & NewTeks pain of upgrading LW3D. Way back in 2007 I got to experience the horror and pain myself of trying to upgrade an acquired 3D animation package. After several years of disappointments and slow progress of having a developer update the program I almost gave up in frustration. It’s very very differcult to update and maintain 3D animation/rendering software. And the frustration I was having is with a much simpler application than LW3D which is way more advanced and complex.

From time to time I just do a check of their job ads to see if Virzrt/newtek has any intent on hiring developers and ultimately contintue to develop lightwave...just for me to get a sense of how serious they would be to maintain development of Lightwave, but so far nothing of that is indicated on their job ads.

There may however be a case of them already having that in place, but personally I just can´t help but seriously doubt that there is such an intent.
But we will see in due time how long it takes before they notify, or start hiring, or just do a release.

So for all of you third party developers, coders etc...just apply to some of these, and then add to your CV that you know quite a bit of code for Lightwave ;)

Either they take you seriously on it, or "are you kidding" and you will get them to laugh at least.

Those job descriptions illustrate company goals. Like most other tech companies, they seem to be looking to a subscription service of tools and asset libraries as their primary revenue. There's no profit in developing the tools (LightWave 3D) necessary to create the assets for those libraries. Even Blender understood the value of this modern service model, as it now gets a lot of its funding through the Blender Cloud.

I must say I will be very disappointed if LW is indeed no more. Yes, it's possible to keep using it, but for how long?
But I just want a firm yes or no from VizRT. However as of right now it appears as though LW has been EOL'd.

I usually disagree with that, and I know many others who do also.
Hope can also be the only thing that saves you.

Everything in quantities i guess.

The qoute doesn´t really imply I would agree with that hope is a dangerous thing, in some cases hope is out of scope, but that´s just a matter of giving in and an ability to recognizing where there isn´t much hope.

If it´s a matter of software or a broken care, it will be easier to give in, if it´s about finding new jobs, or perhaps surviving horrible situations even..It´s a good practice to have hope and not give in.
And as Andy Dufresne says... "get busy dying or get busy living"
Let´s Hope lightwave´s next release isn´t just a shitty pipe dream.

So, as most of you know, I've been inactive here for about three weeks due to personal circumstances. In consequence and unsurprisingly, there has been a bit of drama in my absence. The news (whether it's good or bad will depend on your perspective) is that I'm more or less back. This means that a certain amount of moderation will be applied once more.

I've had several complaints about this thread, and since I don't have time to read 14 pages to see who was at fault, I'm taking the middle of the road step of locking this thread. Feel free to start a new, similar one, mindful of forum policy re: on personal attacks, and the forum's purpose (i.e., "to facilitate professional and civil discourse regarding the use of NewTek products by those who own them").
