Velvet

Okay I'm working on a light painting and I would like the background to be on a faux velvet. I added a color node of black and then a shader minnaert in between. Is that all I have to do or is there more? And should I put a "glass sheet" over it and texture that with the velvet?
 
Here is what I have done so far. I rendered the scene, and saved the image. Started a new scene. Added an image node, place the image on a flat plane. Then tried to add a velvet shader to the image from dpkit. I'm not sure the image is affected by the shader. Is there another node I should add
