Rendered files won't save

My Mac Intel 3.0, 8 way with 16GB ram rendered tga files yesterday along with an mov animation file and saved both types. Today I loaded a different scene and set it for mov animation save. After the first frame renders and tries to save the application quits. Did it 4 time in a row. Is there a compatibility issue with OS 10.4? I do recall getting a new update on Quicktime and loaded it yesterday.

Turns out that my QT settings weren't saved. Without warning the application would quit as I rendered the first frame. I went back and set the QuickTime to the settings I wanted and now the quicktime saves as an mov file as it should. I'm learning quickly as I go.
