Recording at 1/2 or 1/4 quality

We use the program recording to replay things in real time during our events. When working off of the internal hard drive you only have so much space and speed you can read/write. If you were able to record at 1/2 or 1/4 quality on the program mix, you would be able to store more as well as playback more as needed. This would also help in areas where upload and download speeds are limited.

You could configure a Mix assigned to Program to output, say, 720p. and record that instead. Alternatively, I believe you can transcode the recording at the same time using Export.

That’s great solution until something like this is done.

thanks!
You're welcome. I wouldn't hold out for it to be implemented as requested in your first post. This could basically require something equivalent to adding another M/E for every input with recording enabled, which I don't see happening.

Maybe a better solution is allowing streaming/ encoding to a file capture to be replayable while still writing the file, similar to recording. This would allow the instant replay but with a a slimed down file size.

I am not so sure it's simple or even possible to support 'growing' files in the various formats supplied by the encoding mechanisms. Perhaps the simplest solution would be a nice fast and spacious external storage system.

That make sense for a local setup. I’m just trying to build a solution for broadcast gear being located in several locations. Doing it this way would require much less bandwidth from an ISP.

Ultimately an NDI Bridge solution may be what works best for you. It offers pretty decent options to tailor output to the WAN to suit available bandwidth and the number of active connections.
