Paul Lara Question

I've read the thread, and besides making the feature request, is there a specific question you were wanting me to address?

Matte

Hi,
Thanks for responding so quickly.

I think what we are looking for is straight answers about SE and the VT.
A listing of things being worked on now and things that will never happen (mattes or no mattes). This would help us make choices on future editing software purchases.

For my most basic VT wish, I would like Newtek to work a deal out with Digital Juice to provide us with some new DVEs for the system. I been working with the same set for years now and it would be nice to have something new to use in my projects.

Paul doesn't have the answer. I truly believe he would quickly share it if he did.

Jim Plant apparently was given to make a promise his words couldn't muster up to.

Seems this is an engineering question of which they would make Paul aware; apparently gave erroneous/unfullfilable info to Mr. Plant; they are about the last in the boat of knowledge.

I'm gonna go have a beer but I tell ya: we ain't gettin' no answers. ;) If they don't announce a product, of which we would be well dubious of, then keep your hopes in check.

Oh yeah... that beer.

I can tell you that SpeedEDIT development continues, Rich, but I can't say what features will or won't be added or improved until it gets closer to delivery.

And, you do know you can create your own custom DVEs with Aura's VTWipe maker and LightWave, right?
I'm not dismissing your idea of a DigitalJuice collaboration, just saying you can create some really impressive DVEs with your customer's logo fairly easily.

Hi,
Yes I am aware of that and I have done logo stuff using Lightwave and After Effects. I find that AE meets my needs better than Aura.
I am not taking about logos or DVE's for commercial work. I am talking about a set of DVE's for us event editors to work with. I do not have the ability to create content like this.
For example
http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=505&tab=t3#tabs

http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=508&tab=t3#tabs

http://www.digitaljuice.com/products/products.asp?pid=429&tab=t3#tabs

As far as I know the LW plug in has not be updated to make HD DVE's and is not mutli threaded so the compile time would be long.

Rich if you need these that badly why not pay someone to convert them for you? We would be glad to help and would not charge too much. It sure beats waiting for vaporous features in the next SE that have not even been announced. If you don't support current developers that do make native DVEs for NewTek video editing solutions you only force us to do plug-in development for other editing systems.

Hi Bill,
I have supported others that have made DVD collections. I worked with a fellow VT/LW user from Mexico to help him develop a collection of DVE's for event videos . I purchased that collection from him, I do not know how many he sold overall.
I was sort of told by Newtek at NAB when the VT first came out that they would have DVE add ons as the system progressed. Other systems have gotten new DVE's with each new release as well as better filter sets.
Buying Swipes from DJ then sending them to you seems a little a@@ backwards. I would think that DJ might have a licensing issue with that as well? I do appreciate the offer and if that is what I need to do to get some new sets for my system then I might hit you up. Jeeze even GlobalStreams has more content packs the Newtek and they sell them right on their site.

Thanks Again For Your Input
~Rich

3rd party support

In regards to 3rd party developer support for the VT. IMHO Newtek should have purchased some of the 3rd party tools from the developers and just added to the system the way that I think Edius has the Mercalli video stabilizer plug-in now.
India CG was a PC app untill Apple bought them out and turned it into Livetype for FCP...If Newtek would have done something like that and added it to the VT they could have turned some heads towards the system.
You don't always have to reinvent the wheel.

I disagree, to an extent...
It's the video side, Dr. Andrew and crew, that don't seem to have adopted this; the lw side has embraced this from what I can see.
It's not a NewTek issue as much as a NewTek VideoSide issue.

If someone can provide or point me in the right direction of a standalone aura program (I have and use VT5.2b but at our church and i assume it cant be installed seperately usually?) I would gladly make a DVD collection full of really cool DVES, some I make myself and some I make using digital juice stuff (I have hundreds!).

Also, a tutorial would be welcome otherwise I would have to figure it out myself.

once done, I can convert your DVE for free...

Sounds like a nice offer deaddavey but it sure does not encourage 3rd party developers to keep supporting NewTek editing solutions if you offer everything free.

Just to mention it, you would not want to make Digital Juice based DVE's available to others, whether free or not. That would be in breach of your license. You would need explicit permission from DJ before doing anything remotely like that.

ooh, nice, im definitely going to make use of that one, thanks!
really tho, i need to figure out how to make warp dve's in lightwave (im pretty sure i remember seeing a tutorial or kit on the vt disk somewhere)...
even tho i love making 3d stuff, ive only gotten into blender, and unfortunately i dont think its possible to make dve's in blender.

No, it's not because Blender won't use the Ligtwave DVE surface plugins.

The instructions for using the Lightwave DVE plugins and compiler are included in the download with them.

Hi, Paul,
So do you think that someone over at Newtek could speak with them. DJ had made DVE's for the Trinity and I do think that Newtek has more product out there at this point then they did at Play.
Thanks
Rich

@Richvideo

Unless we are remembering wrong DJ did not do anything for Trinity. Perhaps your thinking of VirtualSetworks?
