Out of my depth (hahahaha)

Hi there

I have recently encountered a problem attempting depth blur in DFX which unfortunately I fear is due to a nasty case of ignorance on my part. My problem is this: I render a sequence from XSI, along with the annoying ZPIC depth info. I convert the ZPIC sequence to BMP for use in DFX (is there any way to get ZPIC directly into DFX?!) and my BMP sequence appears fine as you can see below.

This is the red channel of the BMP which I then use channel booleans to stick in the zbuffer. Here's where I come unstuck. I hit the little z to view the zbuffer and this is what I get.

Any ideas?
