is it just me or is there some scientific explanation why we never get a crescent moon at this angle?

Very nice though.

The Fox!
The moon is in the same plane as the Earth and Sun, so it can be lit from the left, right, front or back, but not above or below (relative to us on the Earth's surface)

It's because you don't live close to the equator. Within the tropics the sun and moon can set straight up and down. This makes sunsets noticeably faster!

Anybody dare to Wiki some of this info?

Based on the plane theory...
any orbiting body would still not be lit from above or below due to it's orbit as child orbits tend to go the way of the parent's orbit around the larger object.
Make sense?

Now...the equator theory...I'm gonna need some Wiki, yer pulling my leg right?

Errr... Are you winding me up about needing a wiki for that?

Over here kids of 8 are taught how seasons work.
(Or I was at least).
