DVD File Extraction

I have a 3" DVD that I need to copy that has been recorded on on both sides. I had hoped that the .vob files would play on the timeline but they wouldn't work.

Anyone using some software that will just extract the MPEG files without re-encoding? I can always just play and record the component out signal but I thought I may be able to maintain a higher quality by just extracting the MPEG files. The software I've looked at seems to re-encode to whatever format you select.

I just did this last week by renaming the vob to mpg and it played in SE 1.5. I think I got lucky because this never worked for me before.

Not sure if I tried that or not. I'll try it and see if that will work. Seems like I have tried it in the past but with not too good of a result.

Tried that and they play fine in Windows Media Player but crash VT5 as soon as you open the folder containing the file.

Just my luck,
