Basic Timeline Question - Objects that Come and Go

I'm sorry if this is covered in the documentation somewhere. I've looked and can't fine it.

I've been working with LW for a couple years now, but mostly of and on. I'm more familiar with the Adobe Flash timeline. In that environment, you can easily set an object to on exist within the scene for a few frames. For instance, a magician pulls a rabbit from a hat. The rabbit isn't on the timeline at all until the frame when the magician reaches into the hat.

Is there a way to do that with LW or do I just have to position objects outside of the view of the camera until they're needed?

It takes a little bit more setup than Flash would.
To expand upon what Dodgy said, click the object properties, then go to the Render tab. Here there is an object dissolve percentage. You can set an envelope to make the object pressent (0% dissolve) hidden (100%) or anything in between.
Friends come and go, but enemies accumulate.

You can also use clip maps, effectors, resizing, morphing etc from one frame to the next depending upon the desired look.
