    Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corporation in Dayton, Ohio is hiring a 3D Artist / Lightwave Generalist.     Pay: $40,000 - $70,000 (based on experience).

    Our Systems Engineering Solutions group (SES) partners with our customers to provide scientific and engineering consulting services. SES offers unique, exciting opportunities to work on cutting edge projects, primarily supporting the defense industry.

    We are a small animation group that is growing with the increasing demand for our products. Our artists are Lightwave Generalists that know everything from modeling to lighting to particles to video editing. As a member of our team you will be assigned your own project and will be responsible for seeing it to completion. You will know/learn how much you can handle and how much you will need to rely on others on our team.

    What You'll Do

    • Model, animate, surface, light, render, and composite exciting, short-length 3D movies and visualizations.
    • Work on these visualizations demands a broad knowledge of all major 3D production tasks and work will vary on a day to day basis.
    • Be responsible for a majority of the creative aspects of your work.
    • Work in multiple 3D specializations from the first stage to the last stage of production on tight deadlines in a team-based environment.

    As a 3D artist on this effort you will need to be familiar with the following:

    • 3D modeling from scratch based on polygons and subdivision geometry
    • The editing of existing 3D polygon-based models
    • Surfacing and texturing of a variety of surface types including an understanding of UV maps and UV texture painting
    • Animating various objects from people to vehicles to aircraft based on keyframes and expressions
    • Lighting scenes using multiple light types including global illumination (radiosity), traditional lights, and HDR imagery
    • Rendering using multiple render passes and utilizing multi-node rendering networks
    • Compositing render passes and video editing in a post-production environment

    What You'll Need

    • BS in a related technical field is strongly preferred.
    • At least a current SECRET United States Government Security Clearance
    • 3D production experience including specific experience in one of the following major 3D production platforms: Maya, 3D Studio MAX, Lightwave 3D, XSI, Blender, or Houdini.
    • Experience in Lightwave 3D preferred.
    • Experience in video editing software such as Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Premiere, Video Toaster or Avid required.
    • Demonstrated 3D production experience in the form of a reel or stills, preferably on CD-ROM, DVD, or web URL.
    • An upbeat attitude, a genuine passion for 3D art, the ability to perform at a high-pace, the ability to communicate with others, and a team spirit.
    • In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level should be considered. Each higher level degree, i.e. Master's degree or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience. Two years of experience may be substituted for each year of education.
