    Old Lightwave 6.5 dongle issue

    Hi I am a 3D animations newbie ! Sorry !
In fact I am an Avid editor, and for some reasons, we have bought an old Lighwave version on Ebay !
We have our 3D partner (3D max) and we do really not expect to do any compicated 3D animations ourself. However, we would like to customize some HollywoodFx effects as video transitions with 3D models! HollywoodFX needs Lightwave 5 .lwo models.
So We have found a Lightwave V6 (upgrede to 6.5 2CD's) on Ebay. This software is protected by a // dongle (LPT1) Our problem is : the dongle seems NOT to be recognized as we want to install the software. Is there anything else that must be done for this dongle installation. I have tried on 4 different computers, each equipped with a different OS, from Win NT4 to Win2000, Win XP SP1, and Win XP SP2, to no avail, the dongle never recognized. We get the "Sentinel drivers Installed" message followed by "No dongle detected, Please Shut down and Attach Dongle"
I can add that the dongle is indeed attached and all computers were rebooted after dongle installation !
Any suggestion would be really appreciated
    thanks in advance

    PS
Sorry if my English isn't perfect, it's not my mother tongue

Whaddaya know, still got the URL for the latest drivers in my clipboard from the other post

    Sep, try these dongle drivers:

    http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp

Bag the SuperPro drivers (I think! The USB version is definately SuperPro, and the parellel dongle still seems to be supported).

Uninstall your previous dongle drivers first with the dongle out, reboot, install the new ones, reboot with the dongle in - then install LightWave.

You should be good to go. "Save LW5" is in the Modeler "Save" menu in the top left. Good luck!

    thanks for answer Bog !
I have scrupulously followed your advice !
    Deleted the previous drivers.
Downloaded the new driver, removed the dongle, installed new driver, shut down the computer, attached the dongle, rebooted, and.....unfortunatly the same old song....
    No dongle detected.....
This is a rzlly nightmare !!
Not sure i'll buy a software on Ebay again !

Well, it is possible that the dongle's dead. The old parallel port ones do kark after a while (took mine about six or seven years to finally go doo-lally). Those nice folk at your NewTek Europe should be able to provide you with a replacement dongle. If you email their support department and let 'em know what ails you, they should be able to take it further.

"they should be able to take it further."
Yes, of course, they should, however I've sent an e mail yesterday + 1 today, but to no avail, no answer. They most likely are on holidays, sorry, vacations for US people, isn'it ?
Anyway, many thanks for answer !
Nice forum, I wanted to thank you all !

    Sep,

try www.newtek-europe.com - I'm pretty sure they're home at the moment, and based in the same country as you are.

    Nog
Your link finally worked this morning, (here in Europe) and I could send an e-mail explaining my problem.
I've got an answer in less than 10 minutes (Ouahhh). My dongle IS NOT a Lightwave dongle, I heve been duped by my Ebay seller ! Now a new battle begins !!!
Thanks for your link, it is, probably, (I hope it) the beginning of the end of the story :
