    Elevation map in ASCII Format

    Hey there

I've been ask to model a square of terrain from XYZ ASCII file (the X/Y coordinates and elevation (Z) are written in plain text in an ASCII file). The problem is that I need a grey scale image map instead that I could use as a displacement map. Is there any plugin or tool that can convert those XYZ files?

I thought the guy that gave me the ascii file could make the conversion himself using his GIS software, but it seems it only outputs dithered (one bit) greyscale images

    Thanks for any help

If you can export your data to DEM you have options to import that file into LW.

    Thanks guys for the suggestions.

Titus: Yep DEM seemed to be the way to go
MouseDog : Thanks ! those are pretty useful !

Actually I found something interesting that did the trick for me. it's a free tool called 3DEM which can generate color and displacement map from any kind of elevation data, and it my case it helped a lot !

    here's the link : http://www.visualizationsoftware.com...downloads.html

    and here's the result I got :
