Thread: quick question on resolution?

    Question quick question on resolution?

Well i am thinking of purchasing lightwave, I am graphic art student and i think it will make a great addition to digital toolbox.

but my question is, since I run my desktop @ 12x10 resolution, for photoshop, freehand, etc will this affect how well lightwave performs on my system?

I am running a P4A 2gig and 1024MB of RDRAM and a Geforce 4 Ti4200 64MB. I really dont want to have to lower my resolution, as it make working in my other programs awkward.

    Hm, you mean 1280x1024 resolution?
The resolution itself doesn't really change the viewport speed like it does in games, because you never reach that high framerates that it becomes fillrate/memory bandwidth limited.

You probably can even ebable FSAA without a noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info... as far as AA and Ansio i never use those because i do play games, and some of the newer games verge on unplayable with them enabled.

and yeah 1280x1024 is what i meant, 12x10 though is faster to type

1280x960 is more correct aspect-ratio wise... 1280x1024 is squished.

1280*1024 isn't squashed, if it is on your screen then u must have a wide screen monitor or theres something wrong with it

On normal 4:3 screens it is squashed...just do the math:
    640/480: 1,333
    800/600: 1,333
    1024/768: 1,333
    1280/1024: 1,25 huh?
    1280/960: 1,333 ah! (that's what i'm using too btw.)

    Sorry then my bad

A few mates of mine use 1280*1024 and iv never noticed any squasing on theres and i flicked to it on mine before i made my last post and it looked fine but the distortion is quite small so i suppose its easy to miss, but i guess your right

I was just in my local PC store today looking at monitors, i need to get another one soon to get a dual display setup but anyway, i noticed almost all the 17" ones recommend 1280*1024, strange eh

    not allmonitors are 4:3

LCDs (and I would imagine some CRTs) that run 1280X1024 "native" do not have 4:3 aspect ratios screens to begin with. Using 1280X1024 on a 1280X1024 monitor will not produce a distorted image.

I guess you already know that, but it wasn't made clear during the exchange.

yeah, i used to run at 1600x1200 too (until my CRT blew up!) the drop to 10x768 for 14" makes no difference on lightwave or other 3d apps. Makes games look slightly better as the res isnt stretched anymore! (gloat nVidia GeForce 4 4600 Ti 750 XP pro 128 DDR Mb ram)
