*FREE* Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer for Windows XP

I'm not sure if anyone running XP and is needing such a utility is aware but MS has released a free thumbnailer and viewer for RAW images. It looks like MS have come up with a solution to the RAW image format problems.

Often likened to a ‘digital negative,’ a RAW image is the native image format for a growing number of quality digital cameras. Because of the camera-specific nature of RAW files, they are not supported natively within Microsoft Windows. As a result, photographers shooting RAW have not been able to take advantage of the built-in features provided in Windows XP for viewing, organizing, and printing RAW photos--until now.

Not if you already have the the .NET framework installed, if you do, just download the Lite version it's only 6489 KB.

This update is a part of many other useful toos that Micorosoft have released for Windows XP.

The Powertoys web page can be found here:

Other updates include ClearType Tuner (making text easier to read on screen), Alt-Tab replacement (with preview), Tweak UI (lots of useful settings you can tweak), Virtual Desktop Manager, and a few others.

I guess it's similar in regard to it being a download and it's from MS. Other than that, I don't see how it's related to the Powertoys download. Does it enhance windows, I guess it does if you have need for it, aside from that it's unnecessary. It is good to see that MS have taken the initiative to create a real remedy for this issue, especially since adobe and apple failed at their attempts

    Cheers,

PS it works great by the way.

I personally had a lot of problems with thumbview on win2k. After a short while, thumbs of both tga's and tif's would require constant refreshes to show up properly.

Right now I'm using thumbplug to view .tga's, which so far is working aok!
