    help with texturing please

    here is a image or my render plant:

    how can i get it so that it does now show to gray area. does this have to do with alpha coloring?

    Use your alpha map as a "clip map" to filter out the unwanted portion of your color map.

    well, now looking at the texture, the gray parent in the render is transparent in the .png file, why is it gray in the render?

    Select the object, hit the p key and you should find clip maps under the render options. Each poly would have to be a separate object or UV map the clip maps.
    You could also use an alpha in the transparency channel but that tends to render slower.
