    OD Tools (which are most helpful to you)

    Good day.

    I'm new to the Orgami Digital Tool set and as I am making my way through the set, I was just wondering which tools people consider the most valuable, essential, or useful in their work.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    I think what you'll find, is that it will be different for a lot of people... I think some of the most game changing ones are the preset system. Its immensely powerful and if you embrace it will change the way you work. As I am telling most people.. the toolset is soo large (+500) tools now, that really one of the major things to consider is this... use Lightwave as you normally do, but, if you find something annoying, cumbersome or just strange workflow wise... then you look to ODTools and you'll most likely find something that will alleviate your pain. Also, Join the ODTools discord server.. a lot of times, people on there just ask "is there a tool for ....".. and yeah.. we'll answer

    Wow, big ask and as Oliver said it will be different for different people. For me the Presets system is fantastic, but mostly the tools allow you to interchange between many different things and software. I really like RizomUV, Uberpass and Substance Interchange. After LWCad ODTools is my go to toolset. The only problem i have is remembering all the tools, sometimes i think of how to do something and later on i realize there was a tool in ODTools for that. Now the documentation is sorted out, its a lot easier to read it and get the video link for an even more in depth explanation.

    Not sure how many tools there are now, but i keeps getting added to. Safe to say its a tool that every LW user should have in their arsenal.

    Well.. you had to add Uberpass into the mix, (separate from ODTools), but yeah.. Its the first thing i open after i open lw... it changed everything for me.

    Yeah, sorry got carried away a bit there. As far as im concerned all of your tools are a must, not just ODTools.

    I find AddSceneReference has greatly improved my workflow. With this I can build larger scenes from more manageable smaller scenes. From those smaller scenes, I can also leverage them in other projects.

    Layout/Modeler Configs help speed up adding back plugins after you install updates.

    What I've found helpful is to add another branch below the installed ones & name it something link OD Fav's. When I find I'm using something enough, I'll add it there. I've been making use of the mouse button assignments more & more as well.

    Uberpass. It is as Oliver said: the second thing to do after the first save of a project.

    You have to learn the tools; one of my learns has been: Oliver made this stuff for production purposes. Based on the number of tools, organization of branches -- it became clear for me that he had "processes" from pre- to post-production.

    Look at your processes in production more than at his tools. He will have tools that compress whole processes into a click. It sounds like a duh comment but take a moment to analyze one of your productions and apply his tools to it. Nifty tools.

    why the move to maya and houdini?

    i have a request: the ability to pick an od tool upgrade feature and purchase individually.

    its not a move, its simply extending a toolset. and the only way you can do that effectively is if you have a fast and painless way, to interface with another tool. I/O is probably THE most important aspect when you deal with mulitiple applications. You have to get things out of your app, into the new app, and vice versa, and has to be quick and painless. Have you tried creating 100 different shaped clouds, or 200 different trees in Lightwave (or really, any other application other than houdini)... thats why . You simply expand what you know, and expand your toolset.

    Just so that its clear, I've always used multiple applications, Maya, Modo and a lot more specialist apps, but Lightwave has always been my "hub"... Houdini can't be ignored anymore, so I am simply adding it to the tools we use here. I can replace quite a few of the specialist tools here with simply Houdini. We'll see where the journey goes on that end, but as you can see by the simple stuff i've shown above, its extremely promising.
