Thread: Rock & Roll Dude

    Cool Rock & Roll Dude

It's been so long since posting stuff here!

In my spare time I've been slowly working on a character
from a concept drawing done years ago... I keep coming back to him
cause I think it will make for something fun to model and render.

The inspiration for this character is a friend at work who loves playing guitar
when he's not swearing at his crashing computer.
As a 3d artist working on children's games he gets assigned lots of cutesy pink girly items.
which just adds to his frustration... I can't help but laugh sometimes.

Some modelling in Lightwave 2018, going to be making some more tweaks
probably make the hands and feet larger.

I was tempted to bring my model into ZBrush to add more sculptural random details.
but after experimenting with turbulence noise as displacement I'm happy to keep working in modeler.

Great character. And it's gonna be hard to NOT call him Jerry if you don't name him soon.

Good example though of never tossing out old ideas. During my recent move, I came across some old source materials, lithos & first couple of ink passes, etc. for a silk screen idea I was working on back in the late 70's. Yikes! A few days ago it dawned that I could now translate the idea to 3D. The whole thing started as a dream anyway so that might just be better.

    Thanks Ma3rk!

Wow I don’t feel so bad for sitting on my model for a few years.
Would be cool to see you’re silk screen ideas if you do anything with them.
Will be like your Mona Lisa

This guy is really cool and he has character even in the neutral pose. Nice clean mesh too. I can already visualise him giving it everything he's got on his guitar :-)

    Thanks Adrian!

    Having fun working on him.
looking forward to modeling the guitar
thinking of adding some paisley design
to add a bit of flower power.

Here is some more progress with some tweaks to the hands and feet.

Beautiful. Did this start as a sculpt or was this done entirely in Modeler?

Some more progress on my Dude,
was playing with adding some hair with Fiber FX.
Going for realistic hair at first but kindda like making it look sculpted
    like spaghetti.

Been working on unwrapping his shirt and pants lately.
Added some textures but will be working on them some more
Specifically the pants, want to add some of the usual
jean details and some white fraying for the ripped jeans.
