    lwo>MAX

How can you take a model from Lightwave to 3ds Max? I tryed to export to 3ds and import from 3ds to max, but it doesn't work very well. The Basic geometry is in the perspective view, but nothing shows up in the orthographic views, making it impossible to work with. Is there another way to convert lwo>max?

as a max and lightwave artist it's a no brainer when you know!

    go here>>

    www.maxpligins.de

and search the version of max your using for the lightwave object importer [version 2 supports lightwave multimesh objects]

it's free and means that you can simply save youe lwo file and load that straight into 3dsmax.

    simple!

The plugins off that site worked great, better then expected. It's 3DS 5.0 if you still care to know. Thanks.

I know you have the plugins now, but just in case you're interested, the objects are invisible in wireframe views because all the edges are hidden. Selecting everything & making them visible would have solved your problem.

There are other things that need to be done if no plugin is available, but that's another story.

also in 3ds max sometimes you can see the model in shaded viewport but it's invisible in a wireframe view

here's how to get around 3dsmax's buggy programing in this event!

    convert ot edit mesh
    then...
    convert to editable patch
    then
    convert to edit mesh

the convertion from edit mesh too patch and then back to edit mesh sorts out some bugs in diplaying NON max objects that you may get every now n then with importing a object from a different program.

    another option

is the demo lw2max http://www.nextlimit.com/downloadlw2max.htm it's a set of one plugin for lw and another for max... it's the only crossover besides fbx that will catch deforms.
If you want a REAL DEAL go to http://www.cafeshops.com/mastermesh where you can get over 4000 jpg files on cd for $18.99
