I need someone to tell me how I would make the indentations in the top of a can of soda (such as in the picture) i've seen this done before but I dont know how to do it, (I would search for a tutorial but I wouldnt know what to look for) any help is appreciated. Thanks

I would make the top of the can with enough points/polygons that I could make an outline of the indentation with the edges of my polygons, then smooth shift or bevel it in.

The indentations are very slight so you just need to use a bump map. It'll save time modelling them.

I went ahead and modeled it but i dont like it , it looks pretty bad but if there is any way to "salvage" it i'd much rather do that then let all hat modeling go to waste. so what can I do to make it look better? thanks

Have a look at the attached, pretty quick 'n' rough, but you should get the idea, its a disc, with a few bevels and points are dragged into the shapes of the indentations.
If you want the text aswell, I'd say using images maps in bump and specular channells would be best.

I used your method omeone and it turned out pretty ok, the inner most poly and the third from that one are both one polygon with multiple faces so the render came out with some minor flaws becuase of the subpatch but i'm pretty happy with it. thanks

oh and the yahlls site is'nt there any more
