    Quickie tutorial on edge renders in Lightwave

    Nothing terribly exciting, but someone was asking how I go about edge renders, and I put together this quickie blog post tutorial.

    I've been doing a lot of these recently, not least because it's about the only way to do really fast 4k animations! And lets me do renders while I'm still working on realistic surfaces.

    That's really nice Nick. I'd really like to include it in the docs but obviously, it's 2015. Do you have 2018 because I'd like to include this on the wiki.

    Just a thought, but I suspect the only significant difference might be the exact look of the edges panel? if someone could send me a shot of the equivalent screen in the 2018 version, I culd stick it in the tutorial and we would be good to go.

    Thanks, Nick, only difference i saw in 2018 was i had to dial it down to 0.1 or 0.2. 0.5 was to much really and 1.0, well. Sorry about the poor VPR render

    I'm a bit surprised though, I would have expected 0.1 pixels to be pretty much invisible...

    Still, at least it works.

    At first i tried 1.0 just to see and it was way to much, well unless you needed that for say cartoonish stuff or anime. If you look closely there are rivits and bolts on the head and body and this has brought them out nicely but subtly as well. I also changed the colour as well as you can see in the settings to a mid grey colour. You can also use nodes for it which offers up some interesting possibilities as far as grit type stuff goes but i would have to look into it more.

    Yes, it's a flexible technique - subtle to emphasize details, or sometimes I set all surfaces to 100% luminous and black edges for a diagram look...

    Note in 2018 there's a global edge multiplier (default 1) which can affect the overall thickness of edges

    and a new setting called 'edge vertical points' which is basically the vertical resolution of the image, so that the relative thickness of the lines is the same no matter the scale of the render (so if you double the render size, the lines will be doubled too, so they always look the same)
