does LightWave have a shear tool that operates in a similar way?

This can be done but a couple tools need to be activated.

    1) Select the points one wants to edit. (make sure Action Center is set to to selection)
    2) Activate Shear
    3) type 22.6 (half of 45) in the axis one wants the points to shear along and make sure the shape is set to one of the ramps. Hit Apply.
    4) Activate the EXTRUDER command and them move the points along the axis direction.
    5) Activate the STRETCH command to place the points all back in a line.
    6) repeat from 2

Time consuming but it works. Also LWCAD has this built-in as a tool..

    -M

PS. Can also do this with the transform tool.

    1) 1) Select the points one wants to edit. (make sure Action Center is set to to selection)
    2) Activate Transform command
    3) Hit Choose Pivot and click on Section Center
    4) Type 45 on the axis of rotation and 141.45 in the scale of the rotation.
    5) Hit EXTENDE command a move the points along the axis.

thanks Sherak for a thorough layout,

unfortunately, still quite time consuming, so hoping this can be fixed soon.
