Visual effects artist - i like this title

    Hi:

I really would like to call myself this.
What i really am : I have been using lightwave for hobby for many years.
My goal is to produce animated movies using lightwave.
I am currently learning lightwave so in the future I can make
    my own movies.
    After explaining what I am,
can I call myself a visual effects artist ?
If not, what do I need to do in order to call myself this ?
    Please help !!!

I really would love to be called a visual effects artist !!!

But you just said it yourself, just add it to your signature and be done with it.
Then there´s always the question if you can live up to your signature, and you most likely need a reel with visual effects included.

Personal projects is a start if you have done so, ov course you will be more credential as a true visual effects artist if you actually have worked on any movie or tv series somehow, but that is for what others think of you.
Just put your reel up and a signature as visual effects artist and you have started a journey, and if it´s good enough and with contacts etc...I wish you good luck.

Your web page doesn´t go anywhere, so create a webpage..put up your stuff and a resume, reel etc, and if you got some schooling that also helps sell your credentials as a visuell effects artist.
Just some tips from someone who is not a visual effects artist...what do you know I am sure some real visual effects artist may join in and give advice from a better perspective than me, just wanted to give some advice anyway.

In this industry you've really gotta have a hard on for all things 3D, VFX etc...have an eye for detail and know your software. If you have all three then you are a VFX Artist. However without putting a downer on your ambitions, you've been a member of this forum since 2003 so Im guessing you've had your hand in 3D for a while. If you haven't made the jump into the profession by now, or at least gained some freelance work or produced some personal work of any significance I'd say its unlikely you will do it now. I hope you prove me wrong.
