    Is it possible to select a UV Shell?

    In the UV Texture editor, it'd be nice to select a polygon then select the UV shell or UV island. The way I've been doing it is by lasso selecting, but that can be difficult at times.

    If I understand what you're after, you could use Selection=>Polygon=>Select Polygons from Selection Set in Polygon selection mode, use the pulldown to select the UV Map vertex map, hit OK and the polygons in that UV map will be selected. Hit equal-sign (=) to keep only those polygons visible, and slash (/) to drop the selection. Select a polygon in the island you want, then use SHIFT-} repeatedly to expand the selection (sadly, close bracket (]) crosses the breaks in the UV map even though they're not visible).     An ugly hack but create a new extra UV map for each polygon island then just lasso select from that custom UV group.
