running several instances of Layout, multiple renders at the same time

tonight when i finish work i am planning on running 3 LW apps on the same pc so i can output 3 different renders overnight.

Has anyone ever tried this ? is it safe? is it possible more to the point?

It would be v handy if it worked

    any advice is appreciated,
    Alistair

    Why would you do that?

    Just batch render everything.

It is doable and sometimes the only way to get things done (certain plugins always make trouble when using screamernet). Just don't use too many threads in each instance. Also set the priorities via taskamnager to the order you need. However, it's much safer to create a simple batch file and use screamernet:

    lwsn -3 c<path to config files here> d<path to content directory here> <scene file> <start frame> <end frame>

Create 3 such entries and save your file as e.g render.bat in your LW\programs directory.

    lwsn -3 c<path to config files here> d<path to content directory here> <scene file> <start frame> <end frame>

    questions:

    - what's the "-3 c" for?

    - what config files?

    - Does this look right?

    "lwsn.exe -3 c:\lightwave\? C:\win\desktop\anims\anim06.lws 90 320"

-3 is for Screamernet mode 3. It's for running from command line or batch files.

Config files are the files that hold your settings LW setting such as plugins. They are stored in different folders depending on the version of LW and OS you are using. See your LW manual.

It was nice in the old days when the CFG files were in you LW Program folder. B]There really should be a setting in LW to let you chose where to store these files or at least a feature in LW to back them up![/B]

    More like
    c:\lightwave\programs\lwsn.exe -3 c:\folder where cfg files are\? C:\win\desktop\anims\anim06.lws 90 320

I don't care if the glass is half full or half empty. Fill it up cause I'm still thirsty.

Whoa whoa whoa... Go to flay.com Search plugins for LWSN Controller. Very easy to use and you don't even need LW running while you batch many scenes overnight. Use it all the time. D-Storm Rocks.
