One question in specific I would ask you is whether your PC is fan cooled or liquid cooled? We're going to be starting from scratch with a PC for this software so all options are currently on the table. I don't know much about the liquid cooled machines but it seems everything I find on the internet containing a GTX 1070 or 1080 GPU is all using water. So is that a must? (For reference, we're going to be using the dual output mode on Characterworks)
Fan cooled for sure. I just have an issue with putting anything liquid inside something electronic. Just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Never has.

Our clients are using a mixture of equipment to run CW. We have built rackmount PCs for some of them and others are using high end laptops. Our own demo machine is running on a HP gaming Laptop called the OMEN series. Runs perfectly fine. The key is to have the dedicated NVidia graphics adapter.

Typical machine we build for our CW clients is:

    1U or 2U rackmount chassis
Intel i7 quad core CPU chip
32gb of RAM (will work fine on 16 but RAM is cheap)
    NVidia GT730 graphics card
480gb SSD drive for Windows 10
    Windows 10 Professional version
Blackmagic Decklink DUO for dual SDI video outputs if necessary. (We primarily use and suggest NDI everywhere instead of hardware outputs)

Last one we sold at under $2000 as listed above with the capture card installed and tested. A little less if we sell you the copy of CharacterWorks with the machine as a bundle.
Let me know if you would like some assistance.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. Should have asked my question earlier as we just bought the software and did the PC build last week. Based on your specs though I think we'll be in good shape as we went pretty similar to that. I'm just blown away at what the program does. It's going to take our production to a whole new level.

    CharacterWorks 3.7 Released

CharacterWorks 3.7 brings several exciting new features, as well as lots of improvements and fixes.

You can download and test CharacterWorks yourself!

    The VideoWall Option
Drive large screens with CW’s dynamic, attractive graphics rendered at huge resolutions.
Take advantage of the new HDMI output capability with nVidia Mosaic setups, or use the new videowall output device that handles division of the large virtual display into multiple Decklink output devices.
In addition, the new “View” abstraction makes it easy to manage playback in multiple parts of a very large display area.

    * Videowall options are sold separately and are not part of the free update.

    HDMI Output
Host graphics card monitor outputs (HDMI, DisplayPort) can now be used as output devices, with support for non-standard resolutions and frame rates, making it possible to use technologies such as nVidia Surround or nVidia Mosaic.
Automatic Font Selection for Text Layers
Text layers now support automatic switching between alternate fonts
in case the dynamic content does not fit within the specified maximum layer size.
    Improved Data Source Workflows
The timing of layer content updates from linked data sources can now be controlled via behaviours with the UpdateFrom action.
Data sources are now capable of maintaining their selections in between query executions, based-on row ordering or a specified key column.
Furthermore, the new UnselectCurrent behaviour action performs modification of data source selection for simple sequential operation.
Support for Kazo Vision Ultra Score Scoreboards
Key-Value data sources can now receive real-time score data directly from Kazo Vision Ultra Score scoreboards over UDP.
    Official Support for NDI 3.7
NDI 3.7 is now officially supported for improved image quality, performance and compatibility.

    Major Improvements and Fixes

    • Significant performance improvements have been made to the renderer, allowing more complex projects and higher output resolutions.
    • The Live Source subsystem has received a major overhaul, resulting in more robust operation and support for more simultaneously active inputs.
    • Support for right-to-left languages (Arabic, Urdu, etc.) has been improved.
    • Twitter Data Source now supports tweets longer than 140 characters.
    • New material/effect blocks and properties have been added.
    • The XQuery engine has been replaced for higher stability and performance.
    • The HTTP Remote Control protocol has been expanded with new layer listing capability and unique object identifier support.
    • Several new sample projects, templates and presets have been added. New sports samples include volleyball, American football, e-sports.

    CharacterWorks 3.8 Released

CharacterWorks 3.8 brings several exciting new features, as well as lots of improvements and fixes.

You can download and test CharacterWorks yourself!

    Internationalization

CharacterWorks GUI and documentation (interactive help system)
have been translated into Simplified Chinese (many thanks to Oxygentec).

If you are interested in helping us translate CW into your native
language, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Support for FinishLynx Photo-Finish and Timing Systems

CharacterWorks’ Key-Value Data source can now connect to FinishLynx
systems (over serial/COM or network/UDP connection) and receive
results information and timing in real-time. This makes CW’s attractive
and dynamic graphics available to FinishLynx users worldwide,
providing a powerful alternative to ResulTV software in existing and
    future installations.
New Date/Time formatting features in CWML

The new “calendar” parameter makes it possible to specify type of
calendar (e.g. Gregorian, Chinese, Islamic, etc.) to be used for display
of current time and date. Furthermore, advanced date/time formatting
is now supported via formatting strings that conform to the
    Unicode CLDR date/time patterns specification.
More Flexible Window Arrangements in the GUI

CW’s windows can now be docked and tabbed in multiple columns
or rows within the main window or with each other in side monitors.
    Remote Control Protocol

The Remote Control Protocol has become capable of handling
multiple commands within a single HTTP request.
In addition, Access-Control-Allow-Origin header can be specified,
making it possible for web-based applications residing on external
servers to access CW functionality via the Remote Control Protocol.

    Major Improvements and Fixes

    • NDI has been upgraded to version 3.8.1
    • Several new sample projects, templates and presets have been added.
New sports samples include volleyball, American football, baseball.
