    Four hours

    4:04 HOURS
6 core AMD 2800 mhz phenom II
    Windows 7 64 bit
    16 gigs of ram

Gee I thought my new 16 gigs of RAM made it a boastful machine. Now after reading this thread without 32 friggin cores I feel impotent!

    For the heck of it:
2h 6m 12s (with a bit of work being done at the same time).

    i7-2600K - slight OC to 3.6GHz (up 100Mhz from stock), 4 Cores + 4HT
    32GB, GeForce 560Ti, homebuilt

Edit: Amazing to see that the 6-core with OC is almost as fast as Dave's 32 core machine.

Thought I'd give it a whirl on my old Q6600 and see how it stacked up. I figured it would be slow and give me an idea of how badly I need to get a new computer. It's pretty slow comparatively.

    Render time: 5h 44m 0s
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz
    RAM: 8.0 GB
    Overclocking: None
    OS: Windows 8

Prepare to pay a hefty price for it. I got a very similar machine, a custom built rig whith the same amount of ram but with the E5-2670 Xeons (just a tini bit slower) The rig cost more than my car. But I am happy I got it because working with it is a pleasure and the end results look much better.

evolross, I'm doing the same, left mine to run last night, so will see the result when I get back from work.
This thread, just shows how outdated the tech can get in a short period of time.
Upgrade itch has been triggered again.

The computer I have at work doesn't have internet connection (paranoid admins I guess) so I cannot post an screen grab image. Typing this on my phone and sending a photo taken off my screen, btw. but I work on a dual 8 core (32 threads 64 GB ram) and it rendered the benchmark scene in 35 minutes 45 seconds. Anybody can top that ?

Dave's cores run at 2.1Ghz, though, not 3.6Ghz.

A better comparison would be my own FX-8150 3.6Ghz machine, which has four Bulldozer modules on the processor (eight integer cores + four shared 256bit FPUs). The shared 256bit FPUs are supposed to be able to execute two 128bit instructions at a time, but in our tests it seemed like the speed boost was more like 1.6x instead of 2x.

    LightWolf's total Ghz = 3.6 x 4 FPUs = 14.4Ghz
    est. 33% HT speed boost - the above x 1.33 = 19.152Ghz
    2h 6m 12s render time

    Jen's total Ghz = 3.6Ghz x 4 shared FPUs = 14.4Ghz
    The above x 1.6 instructions at a time = 23.04Ghz
    2h 15m 22s render time

So, your $319 3.6Ghz processor easily bested my $180 3.6Ghz processor, even though my processor executed more instructions per second.

That's the second-fastest time I've seen on this thread so far. madno got 33min 40 seconds on his machine.

That is still an amazing bench! Congrats on having a killer machine.

dood, even my weak-*** machine smoked yours. (Mine's still pathetically slow, but....)

Is that 6 'real cores', or 6 HT cores? I'm running 4 cores, 8 via hyperthreading.

Time to introduce a dollar-based metric in these benchmarks. Surely render-farm managers must.

This is a test for 11.5
Unfortunately, your render window has just covered the version number.
Naturally this is just an oversight.
To avoid any misunderstandings, would you please redo your test and show the full release number.
