    Demoreel question

I am in that grey area again in which I really want to model something, but am not sure what to do. I guess more than that I am not sure what I should be doing to make the most of the models I make.

For a modeling demoreel, what should I be looking to do? Take the attached picture for example. Am I more hireable if I model as much detail as possible on this creature, or if I model this with very little detail and use Zbrush to finish it up?

I would like to get into games, but I prefer to model everything and use simple textures. I know there is a lot of low poly models and normal mapping and all of that, but is there a niche in which you make the really hi rez models? I would think cinematics and pre-viz would be like that, but that is where I don't have a clue.

Game models are different. They follow strict specs. More time consuming imho. Check this out really good game modellers.

If previs models are anything like the models made for tv, film, then they can vary from ugly to great.

Wow that gives me a lot to think about.

I think for now I just need to concentrate on getting my hi-res modeling good. It looks like the low poly are generated from there, which is not something that I would have expected.

sort of ,kinda backwards the high stuff is generated via the low poly stuff , but ZB and 3DC repo tools come in very handy now ..

think of it as a base mesh, you create in LW for example you then take it into ZB and do your sculpting and export your maps .

game models are totally different , you need to take things into consideration like tripling the polyz ...

create a reel that will get you work , that is your main goal! keep is short 1 min 30 secs tops ,make sure you catch there attention within the first 10 seconds. " so stick an awesome model to start with "
your reels pretty much follows they rules so just keep pushing yourself
