    Problems: Old Scene Revisited

I have been working in 9.6 with a scene done probably in 2002. I believe the original scene was done a before-radiosity version of LW. It contains probably about 400 objects, each with different animation envelopes.

The problem is that 9.6 forgets certain newly applied settings (save or save scene as) such as object exclusions in the light property panels and 'show/do not show certain objects in the current render (scene editor).

This happens in 9.6 build 1539 on XP64 (both 32bit and 64bit flavors of LW). My guess is that the (my) problem lies with changes in object ID and scene file format.

    What to do?

have you tried saving as 6.0 format from 9.6 and reloading that back into 9.6 to see if it 'stuck' with your settings?

cresshead: yes, since you brought it up, I did save (export) as 6.0 and reloaded it. I have had limited success with show object in render settings taking hold. The object exclusion settings in the light properties panel now are 'remembered' - not a problem.

LW9.6 now will remember the scene editor settings if I save/close and then reopen the file. It does not remember the settings if I close file/close program/open program and then open file. I did clear the program configs and set the program up again. Same result. I did save file and also export file as 6.0. Each of those files forgets scene editor settings if reopened after closing/reopening program.

The scene has about 800 objects. Each has a couple of independent animation envelopes. Those I have not ever had a problem with. It takes me 30 minutes to re-apply the scene editor settings. That is tolerable because I do not have many scenes to do like this. In other words my suffering is minimal . . . just don't close LW9.6. Or if I do, spend a half an hour extra for setup.

By the way, in this exercise I self discovered Steve Hurley's (Worley Labs) Lscript: Include/exclude lights. It was written in May of 2001. Beats me why the script works with LW9.6 64bit, but it does.

    Thanks for your help
