    Golf Ball

Hi. I am trying to create a golf ball. I thought it would be fairly simple...Boy was I wrong!!
I tried the tutorial at this link:

    http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthr...ight=golf+ball

No Luck. I get it looking not bad in Modeler, then i send to layout to have a look see and not to good.

    See attached.

Anyone know a good work around?

You've gone wrong somewhere. If it's modelled correctly it renders fine, so it's not really a work round you need. How many times have you attempted this? You get the same result everytime?

    Golf ball

Hi have submitted a post in the 9.6 Discussions to see if there are some solutions.
The attached is where I am at. It looks like very low resolution.

Would you mind showing a screen grab of the wires from modeler as well as a screenshot of the surface editor. Do you have this subpatched? It doesn't look it, but I thought I would ask anyway.

Well I have been playing around with this idea. What I came up with is create a ball using tessellation. In the background creat a small ball about the size you want for the hole. Before switching the small ball to the background run Multiply>Duplicate>More>Particle clone. This will place the small balls around your golf ball (May take time to create them) Now put the newly created small balls into the background and run boolean subtraction. Merge points and render.
This image is similar to how it would look. Hopefully you would spend more time than I though, lol.

I've just had a quick look at the tutorial and your models...I think that the problem is that you've moved in more than just the centre point of the holes which has caused that sharp, hexagonal ridge. I also think that you've missed a step or done something in the wrong order because the indentations are 'puckered' rather than hexaginal.

    Hi. Quick message to SilkRooster.
Is it possible for you to show some step by step screen grabs?
Also I tried loading Particle Clone in 9.6, but it is not showing up.
I only see Point Clone Plus.

Super fast way to make a Golf ball:

    >Create a ball Tessellation set to 6

    >Use rounder on all points

    >Using Stats panel select all Ngons

    >Bevel with a small inset and a small shift in

    >use the Spikey tool to shift in one more time

    >hit Tab and your done

Thanks, but it still isn't working.
I created a Tessellated ball set to 6.
When I go to Rounder nothing happens and in the Stats panel there are no NGons.

Hi William. I forgot to ask; what are your rounder settings?

  14. #14
depends on the size of the ball. make sure rounder is set to points and you have to click in the view port and then click and drag to set if you want to do it interactively.

Ok. That works, see screen shot, but I still do not see the NGons in the Stats window.
