Building a small part of NYC

    Hi everyone,

My peers and I got together and build a single block of NYC. This is what we have so far. Please provide comments. Thanks.

    Looks great!

What are you modeling with? A Bit of LWCAD?

Thx, we only use the native LW program, no plugins or third party software.

Well done! What's the poly count on that rascal btw?

    REALLY NICE WORK!!!!

My only critique is the faceting in some areas. Not sure how close the camera is going to be.

    Great work!

Thx everyone. So far we are around 2 million polygons with that block. Fortunately, its only taking me 3 - 4 minutes per render.

I would love LWCAD, anyone want to donate a copy of LWCAD 3?

It's pretty nice but as mentioned above, there is quite a bit of faceting going on. Also, a lot of the edges are pretty sharp. I guess it just depends on how much quality you need in the final render.

You're going to have a major texturing project on your hands, lol! I'm sure it will look great when it's finished

Yeah, totally agree about the faceting. There actually a few more blocks being worked on and we don't plan to get too close to certain areas. So we went a little cheap with the polygon counts in those areas.

Texturing will be lots of fun, but it will be a lot of work. We're devising strategies to texture this thing without sacrificing the quality we want.

Great detail as mentioned. Im guessing you live in the neighburhood? Its usualy hard to get good reference images when undertaking such a detailed project. Not much fun to make a cityblock of Gävle, Sweden. =)

Cant wait to see some textured renders of it.. Is it just a personal project? How many guys are you that work on it?

    NYC Block

    It's looking nice.
How are you setting it out dimensionally?
Are you just referencing from photos or taking loads of physical measurements?
It looks like a hell of a task!
    But good work.

Trust me, LWCad is worth every penny.....get it.
