very good work, indeed! but i guess the merit goes to the excellent modelling (modo) and a very good texture and scene lights setup. of course the render quality of vray is very good here, but with some adaptation (especially sand displacement), i guess this would be possible to render at a similiar quality level also with existing LW tools.

    Thanks Matt.

Sorry Markus but I've never seen Kray renders that are of that quality, only Maxwell.
Please direct me to any you know of (and I'm being serious) and I'll sign up for Kray.

I've been meaning to for months anyway

I tend to think Kray could do a pretty good job in comparison.

Looking at images like this, and others i've seen i don't think there is a huge difference in quality of rendering myself...

Vray is competent enough alright, and especially good for GI and Arch, but Kray is also good and fast at the same thing.

There is some great stuff on the Kray Forums, some that I hadn't seen before and there is great work posted in the relevant forums done on all the current renderers. I also don't mean to imply that if you bought VRay you could produce work like that I've linked to.

I just think that an engine which renders output of this quality (and does it very fast), and has a great and very predictable displacement engine as well as possibly the best instancing, caustics and soft shadows you can get from a standard renderer is very hard to beat.
It just doesn't seem to have any restrictions.

Ha ... i don't think that will happen anytime soon.. and we probably will see the Vray standalone version comming first (2008? 2009? 2010 ).

I personally looking forward to kray's new beta and its future final release though.

Also keep in mind that the images of that sand-toilet are not your average Vray quality. Most vray pics are not that good by far. So I guess the quality in those pics really come from the artists.

I think that's a given but it's my opinion that VRay can be pushed much farther than Kray or FPrime. I've seen a lot of evidence for that and it may well be just down to the larger number of users but it can't be ignored.

Possibly. And Vray is around much longer too. It also has some features that Kray is still missing.

I always get depressed when i look at the evermotion site, all those nice vray interiors people are doing...

I think it's possible to get the that kind of quality in kray, and some of that look can be achieved through post work. I'm just not sure if the speed can match vray.
