Thread: Mushroom clown

    Mushroom clown

After a while finally something I can show to you. One of my latest nightmares. Endless render segments, endless hours of finding the right way and many, many changes. About 60 million visible polygons. The environment consists of several CORBIS images and some LW mountains in the distance. Hope you'll like it.

    Cheers

    Woah.

Very, very impressive, and of course a cool concept/image. I wouldn't have even believed effects like that could come out of LW, at least not without 3rd party plugins or a month straight of rendering HVs. How much postwork was done?

Hypervoxels or displaced geometry? I'd love to see surface or HV settings, wires, etc. etc. etc.

    Hi Weepul,

it's a high-res model with a SubD level of at least 80 or much higher above. So I needed to segment my object and render many, many areas and stitch everything back together. 3 million polygons in each render pass max. Then you need overlapping areas and so on. A dirty work!

Hypervoxels didn't work. I went mad trying to achieve this kind of look. I want to call these days "Days of the flying keyboard and broken glass". There's nothing like wanting to smash LW and all these sh***y computers. What a great feeling!!!

The AD mixed in some real footage at the bottom of the stem. Otherwise there's not much Post-production involved. Pretty straight LW renders.

    Cheers

    Cool idea! Well executed.
    Wish I'd thought of that.

I think you could achieve very good result even using HV (especially if you need to animate it!). But what you've made is really really cool! Amazing image!

I think if you look closely you'll see that was intentional.

Great render but the clown aspect is just a little too subtle if it's a major part of the theme.

Incredible image -- I agree on the subtlety of the clown -- didn't see it at first, but I think that is the appeal of the image; it could actually look like that IRL. Great work!

I didn't notice the clown either, but once you see it, the image takes on a whole new meaning, great work!
