Thing I would like to see for NAB

Full support for RED is thats possible.
Why? Cause I think they are close to release and I think it would make such a BIG slpash to have an editor ready with full batch capture, timecode and proxy support. Realtime capabilies with bigger workstatoins.
Ya I know its not out yet and there is some risk but think off the PRESS! YEOW.. Couldnt hurt.
Just a passing thought on Super Bowl Sunday

    Hi Bob,

Since we are on a wishing trip

I would like to see for NAB...yes RED support...even to 4K resolution and their native raw format...That would really make people standup and take note of SE & NewTek...

But on the more practical side...to see

    1) subs issues to be resolved

    2) P2 (including advance pulldown) support & XDCamHD
support with MXF for both. Throw in Jpeg2000 support
    as well

    3) Support for QT 7

    4) Some announcement with DVD/other distribution
options built in or connected with.

    5) shipping date for VT5, & Tricaster HD

    6) support for other I/O's such as Ethernet, etc... for SE.

    Cheers,

I can only say that a shipping date for VT5 is not something I want to see at NAB. I fully expect that in my hands before NAB.

    SpeedEDIT wish list

What does everything think about NewTek including Sony's DVD Architect Studio with SpeedEDIT? If looks powerful yet affordable.

Sony's DVD Architect . thats the only one I know of that will read the timeline markers for chapter points. Still have not installed the new version but i hope I can figure it out as easly as Dws or adobies dvd program.
If its free then it wont cost anything, right?

Wow, time for one of these lists already... Seems like only yesterday...

I can certainly see the idea of supporting RED as a good idea, and it would be kind of a leapfrog approach to the latest technologies... But frankly, it's a crap shoot. I personally think it's more important to support the formats that are already out there building up mass acceptance, like XDCAM HD and P2.

And with that, there are a number of fundamental features that have been leapfrogged a bit that we still need to catch up on to complete the SE feature set.

But instead of rehashing those, I think I'll just mention I agree with Ray's list, plus some stuff I mention below. Remember though that XDCAM HD and the others do more with MXF than just bring in HD video. Using the proxies and conforming to the HD footage when finished are important, too. (I'm assuming the other MXF formats have something like this, I only know what the XDCAM HD ones do, myself.)

Now as for the DVD authoring issue...

Well, I would be happily surprised if there is a Corel DVD Workshop 3, but I'm honestly not expecting it. And no matter what, even if Newtek doesn't provide a DVD authoring solution WITH SpeedEDIT, I think they really NEED to officially recommend at least one. Just like GV EDIUS 4 does with DVD authoring.

As for DVD Architect 4. It is more powerful than DVD WS 2, but I don't know it well enough yet to actually like it. But it certainly is a good point that it does read markers as chapter points. BUT, the big caveot with that is ONLY if one has an AVI Wrapper, which VT does, but SpeedEDIT doesn't.

I really would like to see the AVI Wrapper and the VTP loader for TMPGEnc come back for SpeedEDIT. It's nothing against what Newtek can do on their own, but there are certainly reasons that one needs to use OTHER applications sometimes.

The thing is though, there would have to be a reason for Sony to OEM a version of DVD Architect to Newtek to sell, and I'm not sure if there is a good reason for Sony to do that currently.

Also note that like DVD WS 2, DVD Architect 4 does not support HD formats AT ALL currently.

I really think Newtek needs a SD/HD capable DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD authoring system for a SD/HD NLE like SpeedEDIT.

We've done this with DVD-Lab PRO. I think we may have been using one of BobT's plug-ins to do so. DVD-Lab pulls in all the markers and automatically sets up the chapters.

    Hola
For NAB I would like to see HDSDI hardware from NewTek.
Or support for third party HDSDI hardware from BMD like the Multibridge.
RED support also up to 4k, on Speed Edit.

I dont own a Red cant afford a RED but think the Press would be very good for anyone that announces support or has some files to edit and shows support!
Just my 2 cents as I want to see lots of SE on NAB floor

I'd like to have support for DVCPro 100.
I'd like to be able to sort the Speadsheet view, ascending or descending.
I'd like to able to apply an DVE to a clip with an overlay.
A Normalize audio function would also be nice.

    Hola
Dennis you can have Avid DVCPro codec installed and other Avid codec like DNxHD and they all work with Speed Edit.
Here is the link to dowload the codecs:
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...ime_Codecs.htm
If you wanto to capture from DVCPro 100 via 1394 that is another issue, I would also like that, and a way to capture or ingest with Speed Edit ussing third party HDSDI hardware.

Years ago I could use a page turn on a cg with alpha.
Along with other fx it looked great.

    Everybody chant loudly now...
    DVE ON ALPHA
    DVE ON ALPHA
    DVE ON ALPHA
    DVE ON ALPHA
    DVE ON ALPHA
    DVE ON ALPHA

    That was good.
