    Exclamation TrueArt's LightWave v9.0 plug-in upgrades..

I would like to inform that there will be available a few updates of our plug-ins that fix problems with LightWave v9 Modeler within a day or two..

Currently EasySplit v2.7 is ready and available at http://easysplit.trueart.pl.. It fixes problem with not modified Catmull-Clark Sub-Patches.. It's so ULTRA GREAT to cut through Catmull-Clark Sub-Patches! Subscribe to this thread, video link will be send to this thread soon!

    Best Regards!

ps. To developers: LightWave v9.0 introduced new polygon type for Catmull-Clark, so if you relly on LWPOLTYPE_PTCH, you will need to modify code for LW9 to support Catmull-Clark Sub-Patches too (add #define LWPOLTYPE_SUBD LWID_('S','U','B','D') for Catmull-Clark Sub-Patches in your includes; it's missing and not mentioned in LW SDK v9).. You can have both Sub-D types at the same time within one layer! Just change type to Catmull-Clark, press tab on some geometry, change Sub-D type and select other geometry and press tab again.. Original and new sub-division method at the same time on the same layer!

The first screen-shots from ShowEdgeWeights (it will be part of ShowWeights plug-in package):

As you can see on a few edges are visible numbers that are displayed all the time when ShowEdgeWeights is running (similar to ShowWeights). You can turn on or off this effect at any moment, and it works independently from other modeling LightWave tools either built-in or 3rd party. To this moment there was absolutely no way to known what is sharpness of edge in normal LightWave v9 (Information window is not working with edges).

thats pretty cool. any chance you can color the actual edges according to the weight rather then use numbers floating over them?

I'm afraid it's impossible.. i.e. would require hacking and using OpenGL directly.. It also would not be too precise, and precision is the most important for ShowWeights and ShowEdgeWeights- in f.e. tool like Weights that does not tell you what will be exact value after adjusting, but showing just difference, thanks to using it together with ShowWeights makes it very valueable interactive tool.. Tomorrow or in a few days will be available AdjustEdgeWeights or AdjustSharpness that will do exactly what Set Sharpness does, but in interactive tool, like Weights for traditional Weight Map vertices..

The omission is intentional, as this is not going to be the recommended means for plugin developers to access polytypes. There is sample code in the SDK that describes the currently available method, which shows users how to call polytypes without using direct calls to them. Using the suggestion above instead of the recommended means provided in the SDK would result in 3rd party developers having to keep calling polytypes directly, which our developers feel is not the best choice. Also, this is an area where further development is intended and so will be subject to change. Information will be provided in the SDK documentation as these changes are implemented.
