    The render looks worse than the preview!

    Has anyone got the faintest idea what might be going on here?

    The screenshot of the preview looks great!

    But when I render it all goes haywire!

    Is there maybe a second layer which is set to boundingbox (in the preview) or so?

    Nope, nothing like that...

    I tried setting raytrace everything to on, and making the surfaces double sided...

    It looks as if a texture map intended for the diffuse channel ended up in the reflection channel. Also do I see double-sided poly-errors?

    Yea I bet it's reflection - I think I see the reflection of his willy in his chin

    The squares on his neck look like raytrace shadows on the double-sided polygons - they don't really need to be double-sided do they?

    Thanks Guys - yes, reflection crept in all over the place! That was the main problem.

    But can you explain what you mean by double sided poly errors? I often use setting polys as double sided as a quick wayu of solving difficult to locate flipped polys that allign won't find.

    Dexter, sorry, can't share the stuff. But the male figure is based ofn the Free DAz3d Micheal Three figure, which is well worth grabbing...

    Double-sided polys can cast shadows onto themselves. I know it sounds weird but there's much more weird things that can happen with renderers. LW has very few, which is one of it's strong-points and why it's considered easy to use.

    Is that what fixed the neck, turning off double-sided?

    You're right it sounds weird!!!

    I'm not sure exactly what fixed the neck - once I had the reflections turned off, I did also remove double sided from everything, but I also tripled all the quad polygons, (poser base figures often have non planar quads).
