    Abstract Modelling

    hey all,
this is going to sound kinda vague.. but i've been looking at some art work (mostly over at deviatart), and see a lot of people doing computer wallpapers with a mix of 3d and 2d work.. their 3d shapes are so abstract and perfect and i was just wondering how do you approach something like that? its abstract so they can't go into it with an idea of the shape, i'm guessing they just go in and do it.. i can handle the 2d part cuz photoshop is my specialty..
thanks to anyone who knows anything that i might be talking about haha,
    adam
