Thread: All I want out of LW8....

All I want out of LW8....

Three things. 1. Stability in Layout when I replace objects.
    2. Stability in Layout when loading recent scenes.
    3. Stability in Layout when using the graph editor.

    Make that four things.
    4. The "unregistered columns" when you open up the spreadsheet.

85% of the time when I am replacing objects or loading a recent scene, LW crashes. How annoying, your cfg. file no longer points to your recent scenes, your file saving directories need to be tracked down etc.
The graph editor crashes Layout when you have several baked channels.

I know $495 is a lot to spend for these 4 things (fixes), but it would be worth it in time saved and aggravation. The new additions to 8 are looking great, let's just hope the stability is there to go along with all the new cool things.

I just want a faster interface.

a faster interface, with the same speed on mac & PC (menus with lots of items takes minutes on mac vs second on pc)…

a faster renderer, with the same speed on mac & PC (although I've bough Fprime)…

a more stable system with huge scenes (hundreds item & millions poly)

a working hub with these huge scenes

    a new SDK

I'll settle for a combination to Tims & HRGigers lists.

Milla would have to give me one on one tutorials for a few months tho'

If Milla shows up at my door, LightWave is going to be the last thing on my mind.

I'm glad someone else mentioned the replace object problem. I use it all the time to replace low poly holders with the hi res final. It's like a crap shoot.... you select the new object.. watch the computer start to process, and you sing a short mahntra to yourself.. please please please please please.... which is usually followed by one of two responses...

    1) I hate you..
    2) I will never call you that stupid program again.

    I've started burning candles.

I fear this IKbooster and IKbooster track are going to be gremlins from hell as far as bugginess goes.

    Let's hope for the best!

I've never had the Graph Editor crash.
I use the 'replace object' function regularly and it's never crashed.

(I use Apple G5 with OS X 10.2.7). Despite what the popular perception is, the Mac is ultra-stable with Lightwave, when you use it with the OS version it was designed for. The only problems come when people match it with an OS version it wasn't designed for.

In Lightwave 8 I wanted to see:
    • Better 16bpc support (16bpc PSD and Tiff should be available from the render menu)
    • The ability to export motion files in After Effects's AMX motion format (like C4D and Maya have done for years)
    • A usable motion blur (we can now get that from Worley)
    • Better surface antialiasing
    • Keyframeable gradients

What I want out of LW8:

    - A Better IK system with pinning like Motion Builder.
    - Dynamic Bone chains.
    - Better bone tools in Layout.
    - A dope sheet.

    ...

    Wait! That is LW8!!!
