In this video tutorial, I am showing how to use e.g. Checkboard, Dots, Grid2D procedural textures, with UV mapping:

Majority of 3d textures were not designed to work with UV mapping, and they often look terrible on curved object (like sphere).
I presented how badly it looks in the case of Checkboard and Dots, which are not usable with any organic object.

3D procedural textures can be UV projected, animated and easily nicely distorted.
