Well, nothing more to add by me to this post, but...

    What you think about it?

Likely not, off-hand, due to internal use of commercially-licensed code from others.

Best bet would be a buyout from an interested party. What do you suppose the IP is worth on the open market?
Or the former devs form a "rock group" and start over with WaveLight.

Does anyone believe the code base of it is even worth a developer's time in this age of Blender and cleaner, more robust code? It would take a ton of developer hours to go through this like undocumented codebase and even if free, I can't believe any developers would be incentivized to even assess the code let alone refactor or build upon it.

And I'm not bashing here. Just deducing based on the lack of earth shattering features the last 10 years.... If it was easy to develop LW's codebase (i.e. spaghetti) would be a lot father along now.

I agree with jwiede on this one. Over the years stuff has been integrated. Could be a legal mess.

If Lw is in opensource, it will be to need calling all old LW developer to make a campain as kickstarter or patreon and make life in same to Blender foundation does it, I am sure all LW users will agree for that =)

ridiculous thread. OS is great for hobbyists, but for professional use, wholly inadequate.

I know, right? That's why nobody in the vfx industry is using anything that's open source at all.

    Pixar, you're doing it wrong!

    Cheers,
