Hi there... Is there a tool / plugin / software that can track a dot moving over a video or a sequence of images and make that an animated null in Lightwave?

SynthEyes
perhaps blender can export the tracking also, i would think it could, exporting it via fbx
I second Syntheyes.
Does the $300 "SynthEyes Intro" let me do this? Or do I need the pro version?

it should, but honestly i haven't tested it too much
also look at After Effects
but Blender should give you an Ok result, so perhaps best to test with that first.
there is also the $40 MovieMation
but it is for FaceCap, and might not be what you are looking for.
if interested in this, you'll have to convert the file in [B] for it to read in LW, but isn't too much of a hazzle.

If you have AE you can use that. LW has a bridge to AE. Otherwise use Blender, its free and does this perfect and easy.
Use BMG Resolve /Fusion ( Its Free) Kelly has Tuts on Liberty3d
I doubt Fusion free includes 3d camera tracking. I use Fusion Studio 9 and it includes it, works greatand it is priceless. Im sure you can get Fusion Studio 16 by now....
Other wise you can try within Lightwave, natively, but it make take some time as it is done by hand and no auto tracking, basically going frame a frame and matching nulls...You have a great bunch of videos on Inside Lightwave 8 if you can get a copy of it.
non of these trackers are "perfect" so...Otherwise use Blender, its free and does this perfect and easy.
Hey there mr.sunshine!Nothing in this universe is ”perfect” if you put it like that.
He just wanted to track a point in a video and it even sounds like its a 2D track and convert that to Null. This is easy and fast to do in Blender and its ”perfect” enough to please a client.
My lack of understanding - is this to maybe track a face marker from an actor and use that for CA, or is it to find an existing feature in video footage and track that ?![]()
If you are only tracking a dot, or a few dots, or a nodal camera move (tripod), then you can do it manually, using a trick I explain here- https://forums.newtek.com/showthread...g-in-Lightwave Disable Parent in Place, before starting.
