Back on topic - maybe they needed to trade the shading specialist in for a modeler specialist. Actually I think LW was in trouble when David Ikeda left. He had a vision for LW and had the skill set to get it on track both from a design point and coding point of view. If you ever followed his FB blog on the work he was doing with his own 3d app you'd see how special he was/is. Not sure what he is up to now as that project seems to have overwhelmed him and he is completely dark now.
The loss of David was a big blow indeed, but it was mutual, David told me that he does not work well in a team and is better alone. Yes he was doing some fantastic work and i was following it quite closely, he has been quiet for some time now.

Who knows maybe they intend to implement the changes we asked for in Chuck's survey in 2018, maybe the need to downscale because of Covid 19 for the time being.

That is the problem with no communication, rumours persist and if not quashed they get out of hand. Having said that for me as i have said previously Andrew Comb, a long term LW evangelist and LW Beta tester moving to learning Blender speaks volumes more than some devs leaving.
Now others will say well there are other beta testers that have not moved on, well we don't know that at all, maybe they are just keeping quiet and they are still covered by an NDA. After all they are not employees and maybe do not want to get dragged into any future agro.

That's pretty much verbatim to what they said.

I just said, the fact that Houdini, Maya, C4D, Max, LightWave and a host of others do model in 4 view does not dissuade you from such a stupid comment. Now sculpting is different of course, but i still use 4 view to model.

As for David, yes..there was some cool stuff there and good performance, I had hoped to see that skelegon meshing arriving for Lightwave ..which is similar to the blender skin modifier.
Canīt say anything about why it has been "dark" now for him, could be many reasons..but what comes to my mind is that the kind of app and all that would be needed for it to be extensive and mature and competetive enough, seem to be a task that a one man show may not be able to pull off, unless very modeling only specific, but I donīt think it was a pure modeling app he started on?

So even if he find himself working better alone, it may have been too much for him to work alone, but only he knows the circumstances of course.

    Quad views...

I learned technical drawing, 1st &3rd angle projection, measured perspective, etc with pencil and paper. Multiple orthographic projections are essential. I could not imagine dealing with 3D in a single viewport, except when zooming in close to check a detail.

    VizRT (Cross) shutting LightWave down

    posted on facebook:

“VizRT ARE shutting LightWave down. They've already started firing people.
I've spoken directly to a number of "insiders" and here's what's confirmed from multiple sources.
Despite a multi-million dollar bid for the software from a third party with a long track record of supporting LightWave, VizRT withdrew from the deal at the last minute.
It seems that they were looking to move some of the developers across to the Video division, and were afraid that those guys would leave to join new company.
I'm told this was down to Andrew Cross, and that he's operating in a vacuum, largely without the knowledge of the upper management at VizRT.
The people looking to buy LightWave have a roadmap for the future, and I really feel like they're getting robbed, as are we.
What can we do? Make a lot of noise to begin with. Let's make VizRT aware that tens of thousands of us have our own investment in LightWave.
If you're in the US call the NY office: (212) 560 0708
    If you're in Europe call their HQ : +47 5523 0025
Writing a letter wouldn't hurt either, but I feel like swamping their switchboard might be a better way to get their attention!“

    thanks Cross

Yes if true it appears VizRT has it in for Lightwave.

well if it is, its very well crafted as it explains certain peoples reactions to questions and subsequent comments and also why you would see several people leave at the same time, and also backs the forum mods comment near the start of this thread,

Could be, one thing that worried me ever since the new Swedish CEO took over at Vizrt and looking at the companies he worked at and what he did on those, it felt like a CEO that had his main focus to Deprecate what is not profitable..Enough, and that has worried me ever since then and one part of the whole in my decision to not upgrade.
Hope that is just a bad gut feeling I had though and not the true case.

It sure Doesnīt look good right now, the best would be for newtek/vizrt and Andrew Cross to simply go in and clear things up if Not true, if true..then itīs understandable why we havenīt seen any statements yet..so all that is kind of worrysome. And if so, if Vizrt is shutting down LW, I hope it still can be done within sales to another company...seems to be the best choice now if that is the case.

doesn't make sense to throw it over board, when it can be sold.

    anyways... 01:00 am over here,

still early, but time to call it the day perhaps...

Cross can send me a letter to clear things up if he wants to.

If it is true however, and the bid refusal, could just be the business game and waiting for better bids..as you say, why would they just discontinue it rather than sell it, in such case they may continue to keep the development themself.
But in the long run though, to me I sort of kind of thinks it should be passed on and split from the other parts of Newtek ..and be sold to another company that already has similar software under itīs wing, and with that we may actually have a completely new forum for Lightwave which I have wanted for quite a while now, and if this third party bider getīs it..they could recycle knowledge resources skill wise and developers within the various software and see where someone can make a better mosaic of it all.

So while the speculation is roaming wildly here, it may not be the end of it for Lightwave if sold to a bider who cares a lot about it and have plans for it.
