Thread: Super slow Modeler performance with rtx 2070

  1. #16

    Oh, I did realize one other thing. I did do the goz interchange with 2019. I upgraded and tried to work with the file in 2020 and it was a no go. Tried the same file in 2019 and it was just as slow until I turned off then on the subd. Very strange.
    your model was probably CC, then when you hit Tab it turned off, and after that hitting Tab once again it made it a SubPatch model (faster than CC).
    i've done that a few times...
    also make sure to what the CC / SubP level is set to.

    files for test

    Here are both versions. "slow" is the one that is massive slow after coming back from Zbrush. "Fast" is just tabbing off and on with subd.

    yep, as suspected,

    CC = slow
    SubP = fast

    an additional note, yes, CC seemed >Very< slow.

    It's just about getting to where they'd be better off disabling CC sub-d's entirely.

    That whole bit with TAB converting their types always felt like a bug, too. Even if you explicitly select all polys, and use "detail->poly->set CC" to set them all as CC sub-d's, TAB off, and TAB on again, they still get converted to LW sub-d's (because the bottom menu selector is "subpatch" by default, not "CC subpatch").

    What's the point of "set subpatch" and "set CC" commands if Modeler won't respect them?

    CC with level 3 has 64/9 = 7.11 as many polygons as SubPatch with level 3.
    So it is natural that it is 7 times slower.
    Just because of the settings in General Options.

    Want to count polygons? Freeze both objects and see Polygon Statistics. 3.3mln vs 465k

    7.11
    that high?

    guess it makes even more sense then.

    thanks for checking.

    CC renders much nicer for cartoon characters (polyflow), but i get your point.

    Change CC to level 2 and it will be 16/9 = 1.77777 times slower.

    Sounds like a bug... fill out a report. LW should always default to Subpatches (not CC) when doing things like that.

    for dense objects SubP makes more sense.
