    Stretching a Spotlight

    Hi all,

Im having a slight issue, im trying to gain a engine thrust effect which is grand on circular engines, however when it comes to a square engine,im not really to sure how to appraoch this.

i have tried scaling it as a area light, but really this didnt seem to work as i had light overspill and didnt get that thruster effect is was after.

i have a picture of what i mean, ideally i am trying to have a rectangular spotlight emitting light spill in a singular direction, but i cant seem to achives this with the Nodes.

does anyone have any ideas of tips on this?

Maybe you should use Luminous polys/geometry instead stretching spotlight (not sure that's possible)? Or use Linear light ?

You may be able to use a rectangular Projection Image on the Spotlight to shape it the way you need. Sample LW2019 scene attached.

The Light has a 1000% Volumetric Intensity and a black & white rectangular image as a Projection Image. I put a Gradient on the Volumetric Color of the Light to make it fade from Yellow to Blue as the Distance to the Light grows.

The Volumetric Scattering is enabled in the Render Properties:

To duplicate the Spotlight into the various engine exhaust ports, I set up single-point polygons in Modeler, then used Add Luxigon to add Luxigons to them.

You can then use Convert Luxigons in Layout to clone the base Spotlight into the exhaust ports and then disable the base Spotlight in Scene Editor.

    Good luck!

Weird, I was *sure* I uploaded the ZIP file with the sample scene, but it doesn't show up above. Here it is.
