Loading files with Chinese characters!

Hi All,
I bought a model, and the file names have Chinese characters in them. When I try to load the FBX file (LW 2019), I'm prompted for the file "?????.jpg", and have no idea which one it wants!

The file names display OK in Windows, so it must be a Lightwave thing...

Any ideas on how I might work out which files it's asking for?

Isn't there a .images folder that gets extracted from the FBX when you start the Open process in Layout? Will pointing to that sort it on it's own?

Ran into something similar last month with a file using cyrillic but could never get it to extract properly.

There are ASCII strings (8 bits per character) and modern Unicode strings (16 bits per character in the computer memory). Unicode is often stored in UTF-8 when written on disk. It's compressed Unicode.

If LW is using ASCII (which is I believe so the case as the all LWSDK functions are taking char * and const char * for strings) the all letters outside of English alphabet might end up being '?'.. Windows is unable to read such file.

If FBX is text file, open it in text editor. Names should be in UTF-8.

try loading the fbx into another 3d app

How many images are there? Might it not be quicker tpo just pick an image and change it later if it's not the right one?

Open file in hex editor, search by extension, and try changing it to something made with English alphabet..
