    Radeon Problems

    What's up!?

I posted a similar post in General Support. I have a Radeon RX 590 (8GB) card. It doesn't work well with Lightwave 2020 and previous versions (18, 19). I contacted AMD. They advised a clean install and it didn't work. Rolled back to older drivers and didn't work either. In a previous post I was told this problem came up in a Facebook group but he couldn't remember the solution. Was hoping I can find a solution before swapping out for an NVIDIA card. Perhaps that's the solution. This AMD card seems only geared for gaming. Any help will be nice.
I have attached screenshots of the glitches. The blank white viewport is VPR. This happens frequently. Also sometimes final renders are blank white.

I've always had OpenGL problems with LW on Radeon cards. Reported it many times. No change ever.

I don't think I can help, but if you really want to try something I'd recommend making a profile for modeler.exe first. Then start playing around with the settings in it one at a time and see if that helps. Start with anything with OGL or OpenGL in the name. If you find something that works then just copy the profile for layout.exe also.

Though I do recommend moving to an Nvidia card. I also recommend using DDU before switching out the AMD card with an Nvidia one. Not sure about Win 10 but with Win 7, I used it whenever I swapped in a new Video Card to make sure there were no old files/profiles/settings hanging around and could start from a real clean slate. Here is the link for DDU (display driver uninstaller) https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/v...php?f=5&t=3051 if you need it.

TBH, I have seen this issue OP is presenting on nVidia too, in different LW version.. after trashing LW configs.. reinstall of OS.. reinstall of gfx drivers.. it went away IIRC..

I would start from going to PBRGLSLShaders and off Legacy OpenGL obviously.

@MarkC No it isn't. This card just loves white. It must be stuck on 255, 255, 255 lol.

Thanks for the replies. I have a Xidax workstation (not gaming pc). It's a nice rig. i9 CPU, 64 GB RAM, SSD drives. Really like it. Talked to them and they are gonna do a card trade in. These are some NVIDIA cards they are offering. I'm eyeballing the Quadro RTX 4000. The other RTX's are a bit steep for me. What say you all?

If Newtek/VizRT have no intentions of supporting AMD hardware for LW, they shouldn't explicitly state that LW supports it.

As long as they publish such requirements for LW, they're obligated to make LW function at a basic, functionally-correct level on specified AMD displays -- currently LW does not, and if they choose to ignore those paying customers' problems, they deserve the consequences.

I have never bought quadro cards so maybe someone else can tell you the difference speed or function wise, but I'd say go with the 2080Ti my reasoning is it is only a little more expensive and has IIRC 11GB of ram vs the 8GB on the Quadro RTX 4000. I don't think the quadro will have more performance than the 2080Ti especially once you hit the RAM ceiling.

Hard to argue with this. I've had pretty generic NVIDIA cards handle LW very well. Really thought this Radeon, which is much more powerful than what I've used, would do really well but it didn't. Damn shame.

Didn't even notice that one. Definitely gonna consider it. Thanks!

AMD gpu's seem to work ok on Mac, but then they are natively supported with Mac drivers.
Just be aware of Sensei's thread above.....it may not fix the problem.
