    Not multithreading?

I upgraded from 2015 to 2019 several months ago. I'm adapting okay, but I've had a feeling all along that rendering is way slower. Sure enough, looking at the Task Manager, I'm getting 20% CPU usage. I've tried with Automatic Threading and setting it to 8 threads. No joy.

Is this something that's been patched? I've only downloaded one version of 2019.

    Thanks.

That is weird, LW 2015 can't use more than 64 threads but 2018---> use all threads (80 in my case)

Can you check more scenes or save video of when is that happening.

I'm on 2020 now, and still not multi-threading. I must be doing something wrong.

    Not on a laptop. Scene attached.Test scene.zip

Okay, asking about the laptop reminded me that I get a CPU fan speed warning on bootup.

    Thanks for your attention.

Well then you CPU might be overheating and as side effect automatic Throttling.

Okay, I'll work on that instead. Thank you!

    (New PC coming soon, anyway.)

There is utility to check voltages, temperatures, per cpu, per core, per mobo chipset etc.

The test scene multithreads her under 2020.0. just fine. It is probably his laptop having a hardware prob, as lewis presumed...

possibly time to do open heart surgery on the system and check cleanliness of fan system. Maybe even go as far as replacing thermal compound on CPU. I did that to my last laptop and was scared the whole time that I might screw it up. I got lucky and did it right and was rewarded with lower CPU temps. Probably easier to do on a desktop/tower system.

Yes, consider this case closed. I have a new PC coming, and this one will be a backup. Once I'm up and running with the new one, I'll try surgery on the old, and see if I can keep it as a render node.

    Thanks, all!

(Very nice to know LW has a little defense against melting our CPUs...)
